How Military Fee Assistance Works at Lil' Patriots
When on-base child care is full or too far from home, the Department of Defense helps eligible families pay for care at licensed community centers like ours. The programs are administered by Child Care Aware of America on behalf of each service branch. Here is how it typically works:
1. Confirm your eligibility
Fee assistance is available to many active-duty families, and in some cases to Guard, Reserve, and DoD civilian families, when on-base care is unavailable. Eligibility, the amount of assistance, and the paperwork differ by branch and are based on total family income. Start at [Child Care Aware of America Fee Assistance] or request care through [MilitaryChildCare.com].
2. Choose Lil' Patriots as your provider
Tour the campus you prefer and let us know you plan to use fee assistance. We are a Washington state licensed child care center, which is a requirement for the program. We will give you the provider details your application asks for.
3. We handle the provider paperwork
Your branch's program will contact us to verify enrollment, rates, and licensing. Our office completes the provider side of the application so you are not chasing forms between the center and the program.
4. Pay only your share
Once approved, the program pays its portion of tuition directly to us, and you pay the remaining parent fee. If your approval is still pending when care begins, we will talk through options with you so your child can start on time.
Note:
Program rules and funding change from year to year. Always confirm current eligibility and rates with Child Care Aware of America or your installation's child and youth services office. Families who do not qualify for military assistance may still qualify for Washington state subsidies; see our child care subsidies page.
Why JBLM Families Choose Lil' Patriots Academy
Military families tell us the same things matter most: a center that is open when they need it, a staff that treats their child like family, and a team that does not make them start over every time orders change.
Three Campuses Near the Base
Our Spanaway campus is the closest to JBLM's main gates, and our 176th Street and 56th Ave campuses serve families living in South Hill, Frederickson, and Graham. Choose the one that fits your commute.
Early Hours for Early Formations
Doors open at 6:30am and close at 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Families can also take one week off per month, which helps when block leave or a long weekend lines up with your schedule.
Stability Through Deployments
When a parent deploys, consistency at daycare matters more than ever. Our teachers keep routines steady, communicate daily, and give the parent at home one less thing to manage.
Same Curriculum at Every Campus
All three locations follow the HighScope curriculum with the same infant, toddler, and preschool programs. If you move across town mid-year, your child can transfer without starting over.
Programs for Every Age
Fee assistance can be used for any of our full-time programs. Each one is offered at all three campuses.

Infant openings are the most limited at any center. Contact the campus you are interested in to ask about current availability and waitlist timing, and schedule a tour so you are ready to enroll when a spot opens.
